About Me

Staud Photography is a San Antonio-based, Veteran-Owned, professional photography small business.

Howdy,

My name is William Staud, but you can just call me Will. I am a photographer who prides himself in being a dedicated professional. I strongly believe photography expands far beyond just the act of snapping photos. I understand that whatever the occasion, it's important and it can be stressful. I strive to make the process as simple and seamless as possible. My goal is to put my clients at ease, to take photos as naturally as possible, and to deliver a high quality product in a timely fashion.

Every project I have the honor to work on, is dear to me. I put my clients first and am solely involved in every step of the process. At the end of the day, my clients can rest assured, knowing that their special day is in good hands.

Now that we got the sales pitch out of the way, here's a little information about me! I am a husband and father of two beautiful little girls. I was born and (mostly) raised in San Antonio, Texas; though being a military brat, I have lived all over the place. After I graduated high school, I too joined the Air Force, following the footsteps of my father. I later separated from the Air Force and am now a software engineer and owner/photographer of Staud Photography.

I've always had a passion for photography, since like the film days! Believe it or not, I shot my first wedding as a young child. I would go on to shoot mostly sports and photo journalism throughout high school. I then picked up street photography, which has remained a favorite hobby of mine. Overtime, I began to pick up portrait gigs, photographing mostly families and corporate head shots. Though to be honest, I didn't really enjoy the the slower pace of such photography; I've always preferred the challenge of higher risk/reward photography. That would eventually lead me to picking up wedding photography.

Catholic Photographer

Catholic weddings aren't just a special occasion, they are a sacrament.

If you are Catholic, you know Catholic weddings aren't just a special occasion, they are a sacrament. That's why I believe Catholic weddings need Catholic photographers. Aside from the unique challenges that Catholic weddings present to photographers, I believe it's important for your photographer to understand and respect the sanctity of the Mass as well as participate in both the Mass and in prayers for you and your soon to be spouse.

As a Catholic myself, I'll do just that. My Catholic journey started when I was a devout Baptist. Eventually the Lord graciously led both my wife and I to His Church. With our children in hand, we began to attend mass, would go on to attend the Adult Inquiry Class (like RCIA), and would later be confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church. That same day, we baptized our children and became members of Our Lady of the Atonement, an Ordinariate parish.

As I hinted at above, Catholic weddings present unique challenges to photographers. For starters, there is a greater restriction in freedom of movement. For example, the sanctuary is absolutely off-limits. Additionally, most Catholic parishes tend to lack natural light and are darker; yet at the same time, flash photography is almost never allowed. Pair that with the unique actions that take place in a Catholic wedding, such as the blessings, the Mass itself, the presentation of flowers to Mary, etc... and you end up with a very challenging day for photographers who are not accustomed to Catholic weddings.

My goal is to provide you with beautiful photos while also keeping the focus where it belongs; on God and the covenant you and your spouse are about to enter. To that end, I'll shoot most of the ceremony from a distance using equipment that can not only capture photos in dimly lit parishes, but also remain silent (no annoying shutter sounds) where able. Since I am familiar with most liturgies (NO, TLM, Ordinariate, etc), I'll be prepared and ready to take photos of the moments that matter most. I'll also communicate with your parish Pastor and staff to establish their expectations weeks in advance. But more importantly than all of that, I'll be a brother in Christ... I'll be there to pray for you, share my experience as a Catholic husband and father, answer questions, offer tips and insights on Catholic traditions, and join you both during Communion.
